Our Pregnancy: 14 Weeks!

Another week has come and gone and we are now 14 weeks along! I heard both babies on the fetal doppler last night and that made me grin of course. It's getting easier and easier to find them now that I have a good idea of where they're situated and obviously as they get bigger and my uterus moves up some it will be easier and easier! The weirdest thing I've noticed with them is how muffled the heartbeat sounds are compared to what I remember from last time! I'm not sure if it's my machine - maybe I need to change the batteries, but I can hear the heartbeats perfectly, they just sound muffled not clear! As long as I can hear them, I'm happy though. I probably check about once a week or so just to hear they're both still in there growing away!

How Jenn and Chad's babies are growing:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.
Another busy week for these two little chadifers! We have our next OB appointment this coming Monday and I'm looking forward to meeting our OB in person and seeing how the appointment goes. Maybe we'll get another sneak peek?! If not, our next peri appointment is on the 14th so we'll see them again soon - but from our previous u/s experience at the peri's office they didn't give Jenn and Chad really any good pictures so I think we're hoping for some good printouts from maybe the OB's office if they are going to check in on the babies via u/s. They may or may not though - I'm not sure what their standard protocol is, and if they'll treat a twin pregnancy differently than a singleton pregnancy. If they don't then I'm sure we won't be getting ultrasounds everytime which is fine too, just not sure yet how they will treat each appointment yet. :)

Kenneth found a good protein drink for me at Sam's when we were out running some errands yesterday - 17 grams of protein and only 110 calories so a pretty good protein boost if I have one of those on the way in to work each day! I seem to all off a sudden be doing JUST fine at gaining weight the past couple weeks but I still need to make sure what I'm eating are good calories and that I'm hitting that protein goal the peri gave me.

Can't believe we'll be in October by the weekend! It's going to be time for Halloween before we know it! :)
